Emmerdale viewers in stitches at Diane Sugden’s ‘Oscar-worthy’ ankle injury scene – but can you spot why?
EMMERDALE fans were left in stitches as they watched Diane Sugden's 'Oscar-worthy' performance as she sprained her ankle.
But it wasn't just viewers of the ITV soap being cold-hearted, as they tried to explain why the scene left them 'crying' with laughter.
Diane's injury came as she was trying to run away from Rodney Blackstock's sexual advances, as the pair are talking in the B&B.
The village matriarch appears to have had a change of heart of reuniting with her former lover and their recent night of passion.
As she tries to rush away, she's seen trapping her ankle between a box on the floor and the sofa, before screaming in agony.
But as she shrieked from the pain, viewers found it hilarious that Diane was gripping the wrong part of her leg.
One wrote: "She twisted her ankle but is holding her knee?"
Another pointed out on Twitter: "Diane sprained her ankle but clutched her knee."
A third commented: "I cried at this last night!!
A fourth quipped: "Oscar worthy."
It was announced last month that actress Elizabeth Estensen - who plays Diane - is retiring from the soap after 22 years.
In a statement, Elizabeth, 72, said: "For the past 22 years, I have loved playing Diane Sugden – she's kind, reliable, and fiercely loyal. However, I now feel the time has come to say goodbye.
"Emmerdale will always remain special to me. I've been treated with respect and kindness, and I've had the very best friends and colleagues, both past and present. I'll miss everyone dearly."
Elizabeth has already filmed her final scenes, but will remain on screen for “a number of weeks”, Emmerdale bosses recently confirmed.
