XMAS BOMB SHOCK

EastEnders Christmas storyline will see terrorist bomb planted in Albert Square putting all stars’ lives at risk

EASTENDERS favourites — and their fans — face an explosive Christmas as a terrorist bomb is planted in Albert Square, putting all the residents’ lives at risk.

BBC bosses hope the unprecedented dramatic storyline will attract viewers back in numbers after the iconic soap has been hit by a recent slump in ratings.

A source said: “EastEnders writers are under more pressure than ever to make the show’s Christmas episodes a success.

“With the battle for ratings harder than ever, bosses are really keen to pull out the big guns for an explosive 2021 — in this case, quite literally. Scripts have been written focused around a bomb being planted in Albert Square — no one will be safe.”

An insider added: “Bosses are staying tight-lipped about exactly what they have coming up for Christmas this year, but they are pulling out all the stops.

“With secrets plotted all over the Square, it’s only right and in typical EastEnders style that many of these look set to be exposed around the festivities.

“Put it this way, if you lived in Albert Square, you’d be grateful to receive just a pair of socks this year.”

Over the past few months, fans have watched as a series of dark plot-lines have dominated the soap.

They included a fire that ripped through Phil Mitchell’s home as Janine Butcher tried to rescue her eight-year-old daughter Scarlett and Nancy Carter being hit by a car.

An EastEnders spokeswoman said: “We never discuss future storylines as we don’t want to spoil the surprise for the viewers.

“EastEnders has a huge winter ahead with plenty of drama in store for the viewers.”

Back in the 80s, producers considered a storyline in which an IRA bomb plot took place in Walford, but it was later abandoned.

Rival Hollyoaks saw a right-wing terror plot unfold in 2019 where Ste Hay — Kieron Richardson — was groomed by extremists.

Last week, Maisie Smith confirmed she will leave the show after 13 years.

Maisie, 20, who played Tiffany Butcher, said: “It’s time to say farewell to Tiff.”
