This Morning fans all have the same complaint about Jodie Comer after interview promoting new drama Help

JODIE Comer left fans confused today as she appeared on This Morning to promote new drama Help.

The actress, who was born in Liverpool, usually has to deal with surprise at the sound of her real accent after playing the role of Russian assassin Villainelle in Killing Eve.

But this time around it wasn't their shock at the true sound of her voice that had viewers taking to Twitter, but instead claims the actress was "losing her Scouse accent".

One asked: "What's with Jodie's dodgy put on fake muddled American accent? She sounds absolutely ridiculous."

A second queried: "Where's her Liverpool accent gone?"

While another wrote: "Jodie Comer is losing her Scouse accent [crying emoji]."

A fourth mused: "I love how down time earth Jodie is but I wonder if she’s been told to tone down her Liverpudlian accent as sure it’s stronger than that."

But others were not convinced and one hit back: "OMG if you're not hearing Jodie's Scouse accent you need your ears syringed."

Jodie, 28, sat on the sofa alongside her Help co-star Stephen Graham to chat to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about their new Channel 4 drama.

Phil commented how people are still shocked to Jodie's her Scouse accent, which she uses to play her character in Help.

She replied: "Still? Do you think?

"It's funny because I've always been, if I'm doing a character it's best to change my accent because then I can lose myself and get away from myself more."

In her new role, she explained: "We wanted it to be very immersive and we wanted it to feel very real."

'DODGY'

The drama takes place in a fictional care home in Liverpool as the coronavirus pandemic begins to affect both its staff and patients.

The story focuses on Sarah (Comer), a young care worker who forms a bond with a 47-year-old patient Tony (Graham) who has early onset Alzheimers.

Her success in establishing a rapport with Tony helps build her confidence, and restores her self belief, but when the pandemic hits in March 2020 everything Sarah has achieved is thrown into doubt.

Help provides an insight into the struggles faced by care workers and patients across the country.

This Morning airs weekday 10am on ITV.
