READY STEADY...CHOP!

Rylan Clark-Neal dealt major blow after BBC tell him he won’t return for new Ready Steady Cook

RYLAN Clark-Neal has suffered a rare career setback after the BBC cancelled his Ready, Steady, Cook reboot.

The Radio 2 DJ has fronted the updated series since last year but was told last month the Beeb was dropping it after two series.

A source said: “Rylan was hugely passionate about Ready, Steady, Cook and he gave everything to the show. It seemed to be popular with viewers but those behind the format said audience feedback hadn’t been as good as they expected.”

Rylan, 32, has enjoyed a stellar showbiz rise but took ten weeks off over the summer to work on his marriage to Dan Neal, whom he wed in 2015. But as he returned to duties, a spokesperson for the BBC confirmed it had axed the reboot.

They said: “We sometimes have to make difficult decisions to grow new shows and after two brilliant series of Ready Steady Cook, we’re making space in the schedule for some exciting new titles that we’re sure viewers will enjoy.

“We are hugely grateful to Rylan and our team of chefs for making the return of the series so special.”

Our source said: “It’s a huge blow for Rylan because he loved the show and he wanted it to be a success.

“Given the past few months he’s had, it has been tough to process.”

The show began in 1994, hosted by Fern Britton, 64, then TV chef Ainsley Harriott, 64, in 2000. It ended in 2010.

Rylan got his big presenting break after appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in 2013 and has become a fixture on TV and radio.

He returned to his Radio 2 show on Saturday following his extended break. He said: “It does feel good to be back and I am feeling better.”
