Vigil season 2 talks underway – but will Suranne Jones return?
THE BBC has plunged into talks for a second series of submarine thriller Vigil — but Suranne Jones’ return is on a knife-edge.
The first started only on Sunday, but viewers are already hooked on the drama, which is from the makers of Line of Duty and Bodyguard.
Buoyant bosses at BBC1 are keen to maintain momentum after it became the most-watched show of the weekend, pulling in 5.6million and 5.4million on Monday.
A TV insider said: “The Beeb knew they had a hit on their hands.
“So they’ve been in discussion for some time with its creators, World Productions, about a potential follow-up.
“Now those plans are likely to progress at speed, with a view to Vigil II being commissioned.
“It remains to be seen whether Suranne will return, as Vigil’s makers aren’t afraid to kill off a central character.”
The six-parter sees Suranne play DCI Amy Silva, sent on HMS Vigil after the death of crew member Craig Burke, played by Line of Duty’s Martin Compston.
