The most binge-worthy TV shows to stream this week – from Netflix’s Money Heist to Amazon Prime’s Cinderella

THE school holidays are nearly over, which means you'll get the TV to yourself a bit more.

But what to watch? Well look no further than The Sun's TV Mag, which can fill you in on all the must-see on demand TV this week.

Money Heist - Netflix

According to the creator of “the most famous heist in history”, the fifth and final season - which will be split into two parts - is an explosive one.

“We decided to work in an extremely aggressive genre, putting The Gang on the ropes,” explains Álex Pina.

“In volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters. It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure.”

Álex also drops a very heavy hint that one of the female leads will be setting our screens alight.

“Are women going to play a crucial role at certain times? I would say very, very crucial,” he teases. “And we’ve added a new twist involving women in this fifth season.”

As the series opens, The Gang has been holed up in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours. The Professor has been captured by Sierra and it appears his Houdini-like tendencies have abandoned him as he struggles to come up with an escape route.

With events spiralling out of control, a powerful new enemy - the army - is primed to take them down.

What began as a robbery will turn into a war… Our pulses are racing in anticipation of the return of this superb Spanish series.

Good Girls - Netflix

Fans were left wanting more when season three was cut short because of the pandemic, but the wait is over as Michigan housewives-turned-criminals Beth (Christina Hendricks), Ruby (Retta) and Annie (Mae Whitman) - and devilish crime lord Rio (Manny Montana) - return for more unlawful shenanigans, albeit for the last time.

As the series begins, Beth’s feeling the pressure after the body of her former Paper Porcupine colleague Lucy is found in a graveyard… and she’s still in possession of Lucy’s pet bird Au Ju…

In exciting news, Eighties heart-throb Andrew McCarthy will feature more heavily in this series as Mr Fitzpatrick, the hitman hired by Beth to get rid of Rio once and for all and set them free… What could possibly go wrong?

Only Murders In The Building - Star on Disney+

If truth be told, most of us have a healthy interest in what our neighbours are up to. But in this new comedy, co-created by comedy legend Steve Martin, it becomes a bit of an obsession.

Steve plays Charles, a lonely New Yorker who lives in an exclusive Upper West Side apartment building and who shares a penchant for true crime with his neighbours Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez).

When a resident is found dead, the trio band together to investigate what they believe to be a murder… and the tactics they employ during their ongoing mission are what will put a smile on your face.

As they record their own true-crime podcast to document the case, unsettling secrets about the building’s history come spilling out.

And, as they begin to decipher the clues, they come to the chilling realisation that the murderer could be one of them!

As Steve Martin, a self-confessed fan of true-crime podcasts, says: “Somebody described a movie once as locomotive - once it starts you can’t stop it, and this has that feeling. In a good way.”

Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter To Los Angeles - Disney+

It’s unconfirmed whether songstress Billie Eilish’s current album Happier Ever After is, in fact, about her break-up with actor Brandon ‘Q’ Adams, but the 19 year old is certainly singing from the heart in this special performance filmed in front of an intimate audience at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in her hometown of LA.

The seven-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist sings every one of the 16 tracks, including favourites NDA and Halley's Comet - in the order they appear on the album - in her trademark rasping voice and welcomes some special guests: singer-songwriter FINNEAS, the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and world renowned Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo.

Alongside the musical journey, viewers will be taken on a whimsical animated tour of the City of Angels.

Tonight With Target Music - BBC3

This exciting new music show brings us the biggest names in Black music culture, not only from the studio, but from some incredible locations around the UK and the world.

But there’s so much more to this series than live music - DJ Target, who is joined by fellow BBC Radio 1Xtra host Remi Burgz, will be championing new talent and speaking to celebrities from the worlds of sport, comedy and television about their appreciation of Black music and artists.

“I’m ridiculously excited,” enthuses Target. “Having been immersed in UK Black music culture since my early teens, I want Tonight With Target to be the ultimate destination for music fans to enjoy amazing live music and special guests as well as discovering brand-new artists.”

Cinderella - Amazon Prime Video

There was a time when James Corden was just Smithy from Gavin And Stacey, but now he’s set to gain kudos as producer of this highly anticipated musical reimagination of the classic fairytale Cinderella.

Starring Camila Cabello as Cinderella and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Charming, the film features pop songs including Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) by Beyoncé, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Eurythmics, and Good Times by Chic plus original songs from Camila and Frozen’s Idina Menzel who plays ‘Stepmother,’ and tells the traditional tale from a modern perspective.

This toe-tapping treat also features Minnie Driver, Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan in supporting roles. Whether Pierce will be showcasing his questionable singing abilities as demonstrated in Mamma Mia! is yet to be confirmed…

The White Lotus, Sky On Demand
Although it starts teasingly with a mystery death, this six-part HBO comedy-drama couldn’t be further from your standard murder mystery. Gently satiric in its tone and packed with sharp dialogue, The White Lotus explores the selfish, often grotesque behaviour of the wealthy American holidaymakers, and the put-upon staff, at a luxury resort in Hawaii. American Pie’s Jennifer Coolidge is the unexpected scene stealer, and as the tension cranks up to an unbearable level, brace yourself for a stunningly messy (in every sense) finale.

Nine Perfect Strangers, Amazon Prime Video
We could all do with a trip to a beautiful wellness retreat after the last year or so, couldn’t we? Well, if it’s Tranquillum House, the resort featured in Prime’s newest limited drama series, we’ll take a rain check, please. Lying in empty graves and being fed suspect smoothies, even at the bequest or impossibly serene guru Masha (Nicole Kidman) is not really our cup of green tea. But it does make for excellent viewing as guests including struggling best-selling author Frances (Melissa McCarthy) and addict Tony (Bobby Cannavale) begin to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets…

Cocaine Cowboys, Netflix
We all love a juicy Netflix true-crime doc, and they don’t get much juicier than this one. The six-parter tells the unbelievable story of high-school buddies Augusto “Willy” Falcon and Salvador “Sal” Magluta, Cuban exiles who were responsible for trafficking 75 tons of cocaine into the US during the 1980s, raking in an estimated $2billion. The police spent years trying to take the pair down, who in the meantime became Robin Hood-like celebs on the Miami circuit. It’s a pacey, cat-and-mouse affair that is worth a binge.

Beckett, Netflix
Admittedly you will be tired of people shouting “Beckett” all the time in Netflix’s latest hit original movie – but not as exhausted as main man Beckett (Tenet’s John David Washington) himself. He’s an American holidaying in Greece with his girlfriend April (Alicia Vikander) when a car crash leads to him seeing something he definitely shouldn’t have and being chased by some very determined, very sinister strangers. What follows is a breathless Hitchcock-style chase movie in the style of North By Northwest, with a splendid squawky soundtrack to boot.

Ghosts, iPlayer
We’ve probably all had a case of dodgy housemates at some point in our lives, but dead ones really take the biscuit. Nevertheless, that’s exactly the predicament couple Alison and Mike found themselves in when they inherited a haunted manor house. And after a bump to the head, Alison is able to communicate with their varied roomies – from headless Humphrey, whose cause of death finally unfolds in the latest series to hit iPlayer, to MP Julian, now forever in a state of undress after dying with his pants down. Is this sitcom juvenile? Absolutely, and all the funnier for it.
