The reports that they will tonight reveal that they are leaving the show after ending their seven-week romance on Thursday.

The decision comes just ahead of the show's big finale on Monday, which they had long been expected to win until their relationship went off the rails.

A source told the website: "It was a really tough decision for the couple to make, but it felt like the right thing to do.

"They'd given it their all on camera and wanted to let their friends in other couples have a chance at winning."

The insider added: "It's not 100 per cent over for Jake and Liberty, there are still a lot of feelings involved, so who knows what will happen in the future."

A rep for Love Island called that news that Liberty had quit "speculation" saying all would be revealed on the show tonight.

Liberty's mum is already in Majorca, after flying out to the Spanish island for the episode where the Islanders meet their partner's parents.

Viewers last night saw Liberty and Jake split up after he made remarks about her messiness and they bickered over a selfie of them together.

She handed back the bracelet he gave her when they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend after breaking down in tears and fleeing the villa.

Explaining her decision to pal Faye she said: "I can just tell that I'm giving him the ick over little things like being messy and I would rather walk out being me.

"If I'm going someone 100 per cent energy and I'm not getting it in return then I'd rather walk out here, Faye, with my head held high knowing I stayed true to myself the whole way through.

'Even though I didn't find love, I found self-love and I wouldn't change myself for anyone.

"I'm not saying Jake isn't a genuine guy but he's just not right for me."

She later told him: "I feel like I can't do anything, I am messy, I do wear big heels, I do wear big eyelashes, I do wear red lipstick, and I don't feel like I can do that in here.

"I just want to be with someone who loves me for me, the big heels, eyelashes, everything."

Jake was left struggling for words but insisted: "I've never said I wanted you to change" protesting: "You see things differently to how I see things."

Liberty replied: "But then that shows we're not right for each other."

The couple's departure means the title is likely to be contested by the two remaining favourites - Liam Reardon and Millie Court and Toby Aromolaran and Chloe Burrows.

Tonight, viewers will see Jake and Liberty going on a speedboat date in the Mediterranean before returning to the villa with big news to announce.
