Kate Garraway says she ‘failed’ her kids as she struggled with homeschooling during husband Derek Draper’s health battle
KATE Garraway has admitted she "failed" her kids as she struggled to juggle homeschooling with looking after husband Derek Draper.
The Good Morning Britain host, 54, was talking about the disparity in yesterday's A-Level grades between comprehensive and private schools.
Kate - who is mum to Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12 with husband Derek - said she found the online system provided by the schools "very difficult".
She told the panel on Wednesday's show: "We all know that it's been almost impossible for youngsters to deal with this.
"I know that I have frankly failed my children in supporting them in their homeschooling.
"I know I had very specific set of circumstances going on for the bulk of the time, but I found it very difficult to get online and help them to work their way through the system. And, you know, it was very, very challenging."
Kate last month revealed Derek, who returned to the family home from intensive care in April following his Covid battle, has "huge challenges ahead".
Political advisor Derek was rushed to hospital with Covid in March 2020, and remained in the ICU for over a year after the potentially life-threatening virus "ravaged" his body.
Kate shared at the time: "He's very up and down, we're certainly a long way out of the woods.
"Being at home we have seen some things improve; having family around, the children around has provided stimulation.
"The problem is, you latch onto the positives - which is good because you have to."
She went on: "There's absolutely no doubt that he has huge challenges ahead."
Kate previously revealed that Derek has been left "devastated" by Covid and "can't move", requiring 24-hour care at their home.
He has minimal communication and can't feed himself, with Kate heartbreakingly concluding: "He is a long way from the Derek Draper you knew, but he is home and alive."
