LOVE Island viewers were open-mouthed tonight as Hugo, Sam, Clarisse and Amy were all brutally dumped from the villa.
The 'safe' contestants decided to save Tyler and Mary at the expense of the unlucky four in a savage twist.
Islanders had received a text telling them that two girls and two boys from the three least popular couples would be sent packing.
That meant two of Hugo, Tyler and Sam and two of Mary, Clarisse and Amy would lose their places on the show.
And the conversations over their futures took place in front of them.
Speaking after his exit, gutted Hugo reflected: "I’m obviously gutted because I’ve made some really good friends in there, I’d almost call them family now. At the same time, I definitely feel my time had come. I leave
really happy that I’ve had an amazing experience, but at the same time, sad to leave everyone.
"Ultimately people are there for love. And that was probably the one thing that was missing from my experience. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it in there. But I haven’t given up. I’ll still be on the search."
It perhaps wasn't so surprising to see Clarisse heading home. She had been fuming when Tyler said he wanted to reconnect with Kaz and it looked like she was about to walk out.
When he insisted she should "crack on" with someone else in the villa she snapped that there was nobody else, telling him: "I can crack on at home."
And after her exit, she said: "In the real world and without even trying to sound petty or anything, I know that he would have been with me.
"I can see how comfortable he was with me, it was just natural. I feel like he is a bit fake. I am a bit disappointed in him really."
