BritBox slaps ANOTHER show with content warning as classic sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo! branded offensive for French jokes
STREAMING service BritBox has issued another warning about "outdated" content in the classic French resistance sitcom 'Allo 'Allo!
The saucy sitcom has a warning due to the vast amount of sexual innuendos and stereotypical jokes about French and German characters.
BritBox boss said: “This classic comedy contains language and attitudes of the time that may offend some viewers.”
The slapstick show has nine series and 85 episodes.
It starred Gordon Kaye as a womanising French café owner René during the German’s World War Two occupation of France.
The show's catchphrases included “I was pis*ing by the door”, “I will say this only once”, “Shut up, you silly old bat” and “Ooh my dicky ticker”.
Even though there is a warning, the comedy was originally shown on BBC One during daytime TV from 1982 to 1992.
A said: “Bosses are worried the pantomime-esque sexual innuendo and the stereotyping of French and German characters could cause offence in today’s ‘woke’ world.”
