But she was called "woke" and "pretentious" by one mean-spirited viewer on Twitter.

Footballer Rashford missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 final against Italy and received sickening racist abuse online, alongside fellow players Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.

He was comforted by several young fans, including Dexter, who appeared on GMB on Wednesday with his handwritten letter.

Susanna got choked up reading the moving speech, which began: "Dear Marcus Rashford, I hope you won't be sad for too long because you are such a good person.

"Last year you inspired me to help people less fortunate, then last night you inspired me again, to always be brave."

But one Twitter user slammed the star, writing: "Woke snivelling pretentious cow!!"

According to , Susanna shared the tweet - now deleted - on her own account, leading to criticism of the unkind post.

I was afraid he was feeling sad because people were being mean because he's black

Dexter - who was called an "angel" by Susanna's co-host Richard Madeley - said he's also written to Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho after the three Lions were targeted with racist abuse online.

Introducing Dexter and mum Samantha to the show, Susanna said: "Messages of love and support have been flooding in, including a letter to Marcus Rashford written by Dexter, nine.

"It's gone viral and yesterday I couldn't even read it without being so moved."

Turning to Ranvir Singh, who also wept on Tuesday's show, she said: "You were in tears as well.

"It was such a beautiful letter and it came at such an important moment."

She asked the schoolboy: "What were you afraid Marcus Rashford was feeling?"

Dexter replied: "I was afraid he was feeling sad because people were being mean because he's black. I wanted to cheer him up.”
