Over the weekend, she chatted to Carol – who worked on Countdown from 1982 to 2008 – about the show on her BBC Radio Wales programme.

However, Anne couldn’t help but scold Carol, 60, for failing to let her co-host get a word in.

Towards the end of the chat she said: “Who is your co-host?” and Nathan Sussex replied: “I’m Nathan, I’m here Anne.”

He added: “I’ve got a cutting-edge question…”

Anne replied: “You must ask it… she’s not given you a chance to say anything.”

Nathan said: “I’m enjoying the convo. It’s lovely,” before preceding to ask: “Are you learning any new words on Countdown? Are there any words that have surprised you?”

Anne’s dig at Carol aside, the women had a nice chat about Countdown and their experiences, with Anne joking her predecessor knew more about the show than she did.

She also said the show was harder to film than it looks, saying: “It’s a show that looks very easy. I think the first few shows I’m quite stiff.

“But I think now, I am endlessly curious, so I’ve started to talk to the contestants and talk to them each round, so it’s become great fun.”

Carol replied: “I hope you have many happy days on there.”

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
