A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin reveals heart-breaking reason he can’t film abroad for new series
A PLACE in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin has revealed the heartbreaking reason he can’t film abroad for the new series.
The property expert, who has been a host since 2004, won’t be joining his co-stars who are currently filming in Greece.
Jonnie, 47, explained that he doesn’t want to risk travelling abroad amid the coronavirus in case he gets stuck there and can’t see his family.
He told the Express: “A few people [presenters] have gone out already to Portugal.
“I haven’t because I have a very young family at home, and I just can’t afford to have to quarantine and things like that.
“So, I’m waiting at home for a bit longer, but I am desperate to get out there.”
The latest series, which was filmed last year before the third lockdown, is currently airing on Channel 4 viewers.
Jonnie also revealed what filming was like during Covid and told fans that coronavirus rules were followed strictly, including social distancing.
He added: “Even when we weren’t filming, we were flying around Europe trying to stay one step ahead of countries closing down and making sure that we could continue to film safely.”
Jonnie recently left viewers in hysterics after a stubborn couple brutally cut him off mid-viewing.
The Channel 4 host was tasked with finding Jen and Terry their dream holiday home in southern Tenerife.
Jonnie was later stuck between the couple after they clashed over property changes on Thursday’s episode.
The property expert showed them a one-bed apartment in the town of El Medano.
The TV host enquired: “So what would Jen’s stamp be, do you think? Or do I need to ask you that, Jen?”
Jen explained that she would simply rearrange the furniture and put her own touch on the villa.
“But that’s just my choice,” Jen added, as she forgot to involve her hubby in the decision.
The property hunter swiftly moved the conversation on, but Terry was not letting the remark slide.
He interrupted the host to tell his partner it was a joint decision, firmly saying: “Our choice.”
Jen was left in hysterics at her accidental slip up, which prompted her to apologise: “Our choice, sorry!”
The couple put their bickering aside and their second offer of £158,900 was accepted – meaning they were one step closer to starting their new life in Spain
A Place in the Sun continues weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
