Who is Beetroot on The Masked Dancer?

BEETROOT has been beeten to The Masked Dancer crown.

Despite fans rooting for her, the purple veg was the third to be unmasked on The Masked Dancer.

Who is the Beetroot on The Masked Dancer?

Hoping to Beet all their rivals to the top spot and become the winner of The Masked Dancer was Beetroot.

But in the third episode of The Masked Singer spin-off, Dita Von Teese, 48, was revealed to be hiding under the root veggie costume.

Fans were stunned to find Marilyn Manson's ex-wife in the whacky line up.

The judges failed to guess the US star.

Their guesses ranged from Shania Twain, Cheryl and Zara Larsson to Kelly Osbourne, Kim Cattrall and Miley Cyrus.

But Jonathan Ross's wacky guesses were way off the mark as he plumped for Mary Berry, Lionel Blair, Michael McIntyre and even Meghan Markle.

What were the fan theories?

Suzanne Shaw

Many fans were convinced they knew who Beetroot was and none of their theories included Dita Von Teese.

In their first clue package, Beetroot said: "Hey, sugar, I'm Beetroot.

"I'm just a fun town girl from way up north.

"Growing up far away from the plant worlds of stardom inspired me to find out who I am today.

"Look around, I'm very happy with my plot, it don't impress me much. I'm a glass half full of girl, I take pleasure from the small things.

"It's early closing time out here in the country, no no more hints for you. I'll let you decide if this is all hearsay or not."

Fans guessed it was Suzanne Shaw.

One tweeted: "The Hearsay thing is making me think it’s Suzanne Shaw #MaskedDancer."

While another said: "Beetroot Suzanne Shaw? #MaskedDancer."

A third wrote: "Or Kim Marsh or Suzanne Shaw #MaskedDancer."

After a post introducing newcomer Beetroot was made on The Masked Dancer UK's official Instagram page (@maskedsingeruk), fans had started to speculate who the dancing veggie might be.

Rita Ora

Leaving their suggestions in the comments section of the Instagram post, many had believed that Beetroot was a very familiar face.

"This could be Rita (Ora)", one fan wrote.

The singer was previously a judge on The Masked Dancer's sister show and fans believed she would be making a return to the show as a contestant.

Another fan speculated: "I'm already thinking Beetroot is Dianne Buswell".

The Australian redhead is best known for her appearances as a professional dancer on BBC's Strictly come Dancing and fans of the show suspected the choice of a beet as a costume may be a nod to Buswell's flaming locks.

When is The Masked Dancer on TV and how can I watch it?

The Masked Dancer launched on May 29, 2021 at 7pm on ITV, but now airs nightly at 7:.0pm.

Airing over seven episodes, each show is 90 minutes long.

Viewers will be able to catch up on any missed action on the ITVHub.

The judges are Oti Mabuse, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan.
