Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek scores posthumous Emmy nomination for outstanding game show host just months after cancer death
JEOPARDY!'s longtime host Alex Trebek scored a posthumous Emmy nomination for outstanding game show host.
The nomination comes just months after he tragically died from cancer.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations for the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Tuesday.
The awards show celebrates the best of daytime television and honors major categories including outstanding drama, game show, entertainment talk show, morning show, informative talk show and legal/courtroom program.
Additionally, performers, hosts, writers, directors and other technical teams for the daytime shows will be honored at the ceremony.
earned a nomination in the game show category, which he most recently won in 2019 and 2020.
The late host will compete against Wayne Brady from Let's Make a Deal, Steve Harvey from Family Feud, Alfonso Ribeiro from Catch 21 and from .
The Daytime Emmy Awards will air on June 25 on CBS and Paramount Plus.
The Jeopardy! host to stage four pancreatic cancer on November 8, at the age of 80.
A spokesperson confirmed the sad news, stating: " is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends."
The Blast previously reported that Alex was , while his wife Jean took his ashes to their home in Studio City.
Jean and Alex were married for 30 years, while they share a son, Matthew, 30, and a daughter, Emily, 27.
The presenter also adopted his daughter Nicky with his ex-wife, Elaine.
Alex had been through multiple rounds of chemotherapy, though the five-year predicted survival rate is just nine percent for the form of cancer.
He was back in March 2019.
At the time, doctors found a tumor that had spread to the soft lining of his stomach when he went for a CT scan at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.
