A Place in the Sun producer forced to stay up to 4am in desperate bid to appease fussy couple

A PLACE In The Sun host Scarlette Douglas revealed the property show process can be “very tricky” as producers will stay up all night hunting for properties for fussy couples.

A new series of Channel 4 programme kicked off last month.

But presenter Scarlette, 32, exposed how the behind-the-scenes work can be often gruelling.

She told how it’s not always possible to meet a guest’s high expectations.

She added that the guests were not always satisfied by the houses they were shown.

Scarlette said: “It's obviously it's very tricky and you always want to make sure that you've got the right houses for them.

“But it does happen where they just hate it and I guess you have to put yourself in their shoes.

“And if there's a property that we feel ‘They’re not going to like this one’, we know that we've got something up our sleeve that's going to completely top it.

“So, I think it's more kind of like, ‘Oh, this is awkward, and I'm gutted that you don't like it I really, but I know that I've got something that's going to turn you around, and you'll be so happy.'"

Scarlette recalled one occasion where a producer was up all night till 4am hunting for potential properties for a fussy couple.

“I remember there was one in Menorca with a couple. They were a lovely quite young couple actually.

“And we've got to outside property three and they're like, ‘We just don't want to go in.'

“So, I said ‘Right guys, listen, we're going to have to go in because this is your budget, and these are the properties that we've got.'"

She continued: “I said to them ‘If you think you can maybe find extra money, then we can change what's in the line-up and then we can really look for you’.

“So that's pretty much what happened with all of their properties, they were like ‘No we don't like it, we want to see if we can add more money to the budget’.

“So, they managed to speak to the dad of the guy, and they did manage to find more money.

“I’ll never forget it. Our assistant producer, she was up with an estate agent till four o'clock that morning."
