Nick Knowles holds 11th-hour talks with BBC and threatens to fire management team after facing sack for Shreddies ad
NICK Knowles is holding 11th-hour talks in a bid to save his BBC career.
The DIY SOS host, 58, was told he faced the axe over his appearance in an advert for Shreddies cereal.
Nick, presenter of the show since 1999, has threatened to sack his management over it, according to people close to him.
A source said: “Nick is holding crisis talks with the BBC at the end of this week to work out whether or not he can stay.
“Both the BBC and Nick are keen to work things through and want to find a resolution as quickly as possible.
“It’s clear a massive error was made and it has jeopardised Nick’s stellar career at the BBC.
“He was furious at how this was allowed to happen and said he’s even considered sacking his management team.”
The Sun revealed on Tuesday how he faced being sacked over the advert, which features him in a hard hat offering to help a family.
BBC insiders say it breached regulations as it appeared to use Nick’s reputation from DIY SOS.
The source went on: “Those in the talks are hopeful they can come to a conclusion quickly.
“DIY SOS is a huge part of Nick’s life.
“It’s not just a job to him. He’s devoted to the cause. The idea of possibly leaving is devastating.”
Nick has hosted DIY SOS since its very first episode.
It has helped raise millions for charity, including a Grenfell Tower project with Princes William and Harry in 2018.
However a bidding war has now started after our revelation, with broadcasters including Channel 5 keen to secure more work with Nick.
He already has Home Improvements and Your Life on Your Lawn lined up on the channel this summer.
