All That Glitters declares first ever winner after nail-biting finale

KATHERINE Ryan announced Hugo Johnson as the first ever champion of BBC’s All That Glitters. 

The 24-year-old was declared the winner of the jewellery-making competition, where the remaining three competitors were given expensive jewels to work with in a nail-biting final challenge.

Tasked with making a set of pearl earrings and a bridal headpiece, Hugo was up against Tamara and Dan to win over judges Shaun Leane and Solange Azagury-Partridge. 

On the announcement, he said: “Oh my God!

“So many people to thank. My family, my mother... she’s the reason I’m doing this.”

Solange was among the first to congratulate him, and said: “To see how you flourished throughout this competition has been really inspiring and it’s been a real privilege. Congratulations.”

After the announcement, Shaun said they chose Hugo as the winner after being impressed by this “vision and drive”.

He said: “He came with ambition, energy, that drive, and that passion, I can just see him blossoming and becoming a great jeweller.”
