Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman returns to set for first time since partner’s tragic death after Covid
CORONATION Street star Maureen Lipman has returned to filming for the first time since her partner’s tragic death after Covid.
The veteran actress, 74, who plays Evelyn Plummer on the ITV soap, had decided to take a break after being left heartbroken by Guido Castro’s passing and while she waited to be vaccinated against the virus.
Guido, 84, who had a form of Parkinson's Disease, passed away at his respite home in January after contracting coronavirus, which weakened him.
The couple had been together for 13 years.
Maureen previously revealed she was taking a sabbatical from the soap but is back now - just in time to sort out her grandson Tyrone (Alan Halsall) after he cheated on Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) with Alina (Ruxandra Porojnicu).
An insider said: “Maureen made the sensible decision to be fully vaccinated before she got back to work, but now she is and she is raring to go.
“The cast and crew have missed having her around and work is a really welcome distraction for her.
“Viewers will be desperate to see how she reacts to Tyrone cheating and can look forward to some fireworks from the battle axe.”
Speaking previously about her partner’s death Maureen told the Mail: "He got Covid – it wasn't Covid that killed him but it weakened him terribly.
"We don't know how he got it or when or if he had it when he got the vaccine."
Discussing her own vaccinations and lockdown, she explained on a podcast: “Well it has been a time that I can't personally complain about except on behalf of the people who have not been as fortunate.
