Furious MAFS Australia fans slam ‘unsafe’ Mike after he tells wife Heidi ‘I’m not your therapist’ in emotional chat

MARRIED At First Sight Australia viewers called Mike Gunner "unsafe" after he told wife Heidi Latchman "I'm not your therapist" during an emotional chat.

The newlyweds were only on their honeymoon when Mike shut down Heidi's attempt to let him see her vulnerable side.

Sitting together on the beach, Heidi tried to connect with Mike on a deeper level, but he was less than sensitive to it.

He said: “Honestly, I just lose focus after a while.

“Not to say that I don’t respect what she’s talking about, but I kinda already got it. I want to listen, but I can’t."

Oblivious to Mike's inner feelings, Heidi went on: “It’s hard to know… It’s hard for me to go there… I so want to."

But Mike bluntly interrupted: “How hot is it today?”

She replied: “What the hell just happened?”

Mike matter-of-factly said: “I’m sorry that I cut you off… shorten these points out,” he suggested. “It just looks like you’re ranting at me.

“I’m not your therapist. This isn’t therapy.”

It prompted a devastated Heidi to storm off, leaving Mike alone.

Mike then said to camera: "This is how you get to be 44 and single."

He did later take responsibility for his actions on aftershow Talking Married, and admitted he was in the wrong during the exchange.

Viewers who are catching up on the scenes as they're screened in the UK were livid.

One wrote on Twitter: "FURIOUS at #MAFSAustralia - Mike is making EVERYTHING Heidi’s fault & making her look crazy while he’s smug. He’s even saying he said ‘I could fall in love with you’ when he didn’t, he said ‘I might try’ & John the therapist is laying into HER. It’s so unsafe. Really upsetting."

Another posted: "I was on board for Heidi and Mike until he said 'I am not your therapist.'"

A third commented: "All the affairs, all the drama, Mike saying “I’m not your therapist” is STILL one of the most brutal scenes ever. #MAFSAU #MAFS."

A fourth suggested Mike needed therapy, writing: "Heidi and Mike’s relationship was abusive. We watched this man gaslight her for weeks and weeks. All I want to hear is that he’s in therapy #MAFS."

Mike recently confirmed he's in a new relationship on Instagram after his bitter split from Heidi.

Mike, 45, revealed he's dating Sonja Marcelline as the pair cosied up in a photo on a night out.

He captioned their snap: "My girl" and tagged Sonja in other photos on his Instagram story.

Mike married the mum-of-two on series six of the reality TV show, which is only now being aired on E4 in the UK.

They managed to go all the way on the show and were fan favourites, but at one point Sea FM radio presenter Heidi, who was 38 when she married Mike, got upset over the way Mike had spoken to her.

Heidi claimed Mike had spoken to her aggressively: "This morning I was asleep, I coughed, the cough woke me up, and I coughed about 10 times, and then you went, ‘Can you put a pillow over your mouth when you cough?'"

Fighting back tears, she added: "I’m so shocked at how you spoke to me!"

Though the pair decided to remain married after the show ended, they eventually split with Heidi saying that they "didn't share the same values".

Following the split, Mike said in an interview that he "couldn’t make Heidi happy".

But she hit back on an episode of Talking Married and said: "I don’t ever look for someone to make me happy.

"That’s not why I go into a relationship. I make myself happy, and then I look for someone to enjoy my life with, so that’s not true."
