Celebs Go Dating fans in hysterics as Joey Essex’s date ‘doesn’t know who he is’ in awkward scenes

CELEBS Go Dating fans were gobsmacked tonight when Joey Essex's date said she didn't know who he was – in VERY awkward scenes.

The Towie star was paired with 21-year-old Niki Clarke on the match-making show, but as soon as they sat down for their date she asked, "so what do you do?"

Shocked viewers flooded Twitter and one roared: "SHE DOESNT NO WHO JOEY ESSEX IS!!!!!!!!"

But things soon went from bad to worse as Joey, 30, was left absolutely speechless by her question.

The reality TV legend, who shot to fame a decade ago on Towie, was genuinely stumped and mumbled: "Errm, well.

"That's a good question. What do I do? Well I be Joey Essex. I just be me."

Laughing off the awkward silence, Niki giggled and explained: "What TV have you been on? I don't really know what shows you've done."

Despite the hiccup Joey got a singing lesson from stunning Niki, before he invited her back to the mansion.

He later told his fellow celebs including Wayne Lineker and DJ Tom Zenetti: "She's a nice girl, she's very easy to get on with.

"I didn't want to have one of those super fans".

Viewers were in stitches over the scenes, and one remarked: "They did not match Joey Essex well?🤣"

However, others claimed Niki did recognise the popular star.

Another tweeted: "Of course she knows who Joey Essex is lol! About what telly do you do?🤣 Nice try luv, that’s your peoples"

Niki later told The Sun that part of their conversation didn't make the final edit of the show.

She explained that she had in fact heard Joey's name before - but she has never watched Towie.

The beauty added that despite working as an extra for the constructed reality series after Joey had left, she's not seen a single episode.

But she insisted that Joey wasn't offended by her not knowing more about his glittering TV career and the pair have remained friends.
