The series comes after 2017 feature film Kong: Skull Island reintroduced King Kong to the world.

Legendary Television's anime series, Skull Island, will see a group of shipwrecked characters trying to escape a dangerous and mysterious island.

Brian Duffield, known for Underwater and The Baby Sitter, will write and executive produce, with Powerhouse Animation also behind the project.

But that's not all, as has also revealed Netflix is upping its anime offerings with a series inspired by the tomb raider video games from Sqaure-Enix.

The anime series picks up after the video game reboot trilogy which was released in instalments from 2013 to 2018.

It will be unrelated to the ongoing series of films starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, the adventurer first introduced in 1996.

Tasha Huo, known for The Witcher: Blood Origin, will write and executive produce Netflix's Tomb Raider.

Meanwhile, Netflix announced this week its new fantasy offering, Shadow and Bone.

Shadow and Bone is based on Leigh Bardugo's worldwide bestselling Grishaverse novels.

Bardugo is also executive producer on the eight-part Netflix series set in a war-torn world, think Imperial Russia, not Medieval England, with rifles instead of broadswords.
