PIERS Morgan was forced to apologise on today's Good Morning Britain after a photo of an adult author was shown instead of a teen schoolgirl in an "awkward" mix-up.
The 55-year-old host was horrified by the blunder, which came as he tried to give young fan Kayleigh Llewellyn a shout-out on the show.
The 13-year-old viewer had written in to reveal that she'd watched the show every day after undergoing a life-saving heart transplant in 2019.
Piers was touched by her story, and paid sweet tribute as he kicked off today's episode of GMB - but things took a turn when Susanna Reid clocked that the image didn't match her co-star's description.
As a photo of an adult woman with curly blonde hair flashed on screen, she asked: "Can I just double check, was that a picture of Kayleigh we just showed?"
Piers dryly replied: "No, that's not Kayleigh, it looked like a woman in her 20s…"
Susanna laughed: "When you said she was back at school, that definitely looked like someone at a work function!"
Branding the entire situation "awkward", Piers then demanded answers from producers as he asked for the other woman's identity, with it being revealed that she is also called Kayleigh Llewellyn, and is a a TV writer and producer.
The presenter ranted: "That is not Kayleigh obviously, is it. Who is that? She's called Kayleigh Llewellyn but that is not the Kayleigh Llewellyn so now this is incredibly awkward."
A picture of the Kayleigh that they were actually talking about was then shown, with the teen looking much more her age as she beamed in a football kit.
Piers chuckled: "The real one is a school girl… that looks more like the real Kayleigh to me. Can you make sure guys? Who is the other Kayleigh Llewellyn?
"Why on Earth would you think that's who we were talking about?
"To the young Kayleigh, my apologies for showing someone nearly two or three times your age who happens to write television drama."
Both GMB hosts further apologised to the Kayleighs for the mix-up, with Susanna saying: "I am terribly sorry to both Kayleigh Llewellyns, you've obviously got different life experiences and we have confused you on air."
Piers joked someone would be getting fired for the error as he echoed: "You'll probably find it quite funny, this is the kind of stuff we get up to here.
"It's early morning, people make mistakes, they call it human error… I call it human departure zone."
