DANCING On Ice's Rufus Hound broke down in tears as he was handed the judges' Golden Ticket to musical week.

The 41-year-old comic was clearly stunned when all four judges unanimously decided to save him and professional partner Robin Johnstone from the public vote this evening.

And Rufus was unable to hide his emotion when speaking to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

With his voice notably cracking as he choked up, Rufus fought tears as he said: "I've spent most of this year not being terribly emotionally stable because the world stopped making sense.

"And this makes even less sense of it, thank you - I will keep trying."

He went on to add: "I genuinely thought I'd be in this competition for a week!"

Phil couldn't resist poking fun at Rufus' emotional response, quipping: "Did you ever think you'd be emotional, maybe even crying a little, holding a golden ticket for the show?"

And Rufus shocked fans with his political commentary as he hit back: "We live in a world where the people we elect don't want to feed hungry kids, so this is the least mad thing that has happened in a long time."

The star was referencing recent fury after the government's "£30 food parcels" for children who receive free school meals were exposed as being wholly inadequate on social media this week.

Rufus stepped in to skate this week at short notice, replacing Olympian Graham Bell after his professional partner Yebin Mok suffered devastating injuries in a horror accident.

And the star admitted that he was only embarrassing himself on the ice, previously joking that he only took the gig to earn money after his theatre roles were axed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While Rufus was awarded with the free pass, his competitor Lady Leshurr was less lucky as she became the first star to land in next week's skate-off.
