BRITAIN’S Got Talent was 2020’s most complained about show attracting more than 31,000 complaints to Ofcom.
Fellow ITV shows Good Morning Britain and This Morning followed, with Piers Morgan’s programme being the subject of more than 11,000 grievances, according to a Freedom of Information request.
The majority of BGT’s complaints came after Diversity performed a Black Lives Matter dance in September which spurred 25,010 people to get in touch with the watchdog.
ITV defended the performance at the time saying: “ITV stands behind the decision to broadcast Diversity’s performance on BGT.”
Thousands also complained about finalist Nabil Abdulrashid’s stand-up routines about race and religion and judge Alesha Dixon’s BLM necklace.
In total, 31,763 people vented their fury over the primetime Saturday night show to Ofcom.
Piers, 55, attracted more than 2,000 complaints over his interview with care minister Helen Whately, 44, on Good Morning Britain when he ripped into her for smiling during a grilling over the Government’s dealing of Covid-19.
He was accused of being a bully and later apologised.
His colleague Ben Shepherd, 46, also sparked more than a thousand complaints when he clashed with Rishi Sunak last month with viewers moaning about “inaccuracies” by the Chancellor over his budget plans.
A total of 13,215 complaints were made about GMB over 12 months.
This Morning was the third most complained about show mostly thanks to an episode presented by Eamonn Holmes, 61, and Ruth Langsford, 60, when guest Sam Delaney branded pharmacists as “pretend doctors” which attracted 3,495 grievances.
Sky News, Love Island, Loose Women, Channel 4’s Gogglebox, Coronation Street, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me out of Here! and Emmerdale were among the most complained about shows.
BBC programmes were exempt as complaints are made and referred to the corporation.
