Jodie Comer’s 2021 projects Killing Eve and new movie Matilda shelved
JODIE COMER enjoyed a mega two or three years after grabbing our attention in the brilliant Doctor Foster.
But since becoming an awards magnet for her turn as demented spy Villanelle in Killing Eve, the next few months are looking more frustrating.
I’m told that the Scouse actress has been left twiddling her thumbs, like much of the TV and film industry, as her two big projects have both been put on ice indefinitely due to the coronavirus crisis.
She was to in a rebooted film of kids’ story Matilda, and reprise her star turn in BBC smash hit Killing Eve for series four.
A source said: “It’s frustrating for everyone in the industry now and Jodie will be feeling that too.
“She’s more killing time than Killing Eve right now, as both the cast and crew of that and Matilda have been told to stand down until there is more certainty about filming safely.
“It is the last thing Jodie would want after the few years she’s had.
“She wants to keep the momentum up but there are more important things in the world right now.”
Jodie has taken the world of telly by storm since her early days doing bit parts in Waterloo Road and Holby City.
After work eventually wraps on Killing Eve and Matilda, she will team up with fellow Merseyside actor Stephen Graham.
The pair are working together on Jack Thorne’s new drama Help, about a a care worker and one of her patients — which was pencilled in for this year.
Hopefully that happens, as it is sure to be a hit with those three on board.
Gloria: Let straights play gays
Sitcom veteran Melvyn Hayes has hit out at the idea gay roles should only be played by gay actors – as suggested this week by TV writer Russell T Davies.
Melvyn, who played camp “Gloria” Beaumont in classic Seventies sitcom It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, said: “Are we going to get to a point where only green men are going to play green men, only Russians are going to play Russians, only transvestites can play transvestites?
“It’s nothing to do with the acting any more. Where is it going to end?
“What about Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie and Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire? What about actresses playing principal boys in pantomimes?
“Does this mean I can no longer play a pantomime dame? Should Rock Hudson have kissed Doris Day in the movies, because he was gay?
“Actors should be allowed to play any parts.”
Pembroke killer hunt gets 6.8m
We are relying on feelgood telly more than ever to brighten up our lives – so it is surprising that a serial killer thriller has been many people’s viewing of choice.
The Pembrokeshire Murders was shown across three nights on ITV this week, with 6.8million watching Wednesday’s finale.
The true-crime story, following the pursuit of murderer John Cooper, played by Keith Allen, became the channel’s biggest new drama series since 2014’s Cilla, with Sheridan Smith.
The three-parter, in which Luke Evans starred as detective Steve Wilkins, is available on the ITV Hub.
Return of the Mac for Catchpoint
Paddy McGuinness is back as quizmaster for a new series of Catchpoint, which boasts “the biggest balls on TV”.
The third run of the show, where contestants answer questions before catching balls that drop from the ceiling, starts tomorrow on BBC1.
Paddy, who said he was raised on game shows as a kid, added: “I’m a big TV buff so I loved things like Telly Addicts.
“I also loved Blankety Blank, The Generation Game and The Price Is Right.”
Mok on the mend
Dancing On Ice pro skater Yebin Mok has assured fans she is on the mend after show partner Graham Bell “stabbed” her leg with his skate blade in training.
Praising staff at Watford hospital, she wrote on Instagram: “So grateful for the care I received.
“My leg is feeling so much better already thanks to them.”
Just Maya type
Maya Jama’s clothes made headlines last year, now headlines are making her clothes.
Her sexy outfits while co-hosting BBC1’s Save Our Summer drew complaints but she refused to tone them down.

Maya is replacing Stacey Dooley as host of BBC Three make-up contest Glow Up and said on Instagram she was “Over the moon”, adding: “You already know how much I love serving looks.”
Murs in the mask?
Olly Murs did little to quell speculation that he’s the mystery celeb in the Robin costume on The Masked Singer.
He hung up on Mark Wright after the Heart radio host asked him if he was inside the feathered costume.
Spooked by Mark’s question, Olly said: “Mate, I’ve got to go, sorry,” and ended the call.
