THE Grand Tour's Richard Hammond has ranted over their "hellish and extreme" journey across the "world's worst road" in the new series.

The trio took on one of the world's most difficult roads to drive on in their upcoming Prime special, A Massive Hunt.

However, Richard found the Madagascan trip to truly be one of the worst in the world.

He said ahead of the new Grand Tour series "We thought this was going to be like the south of France with better weather.

"Then as we got to Madagascar it quickly became apparent that the road was very rough.

"We’d been warned but I thought, ‘Yeah, yeah, I live in Herefordshire and we have rough roads, so I’m used to that’.

"It turned out to be hellish. We’ve driven some of the very worst roads, in terms of finish, in the world, but this was so bad you couldn’t even call it a road.

"We were on the Route Nationale, that’s the main road, the equivalent of the A40. But it was just incredible."

He also said the roads were incredibly uncomfortable - even in their decked out sports cars.

Richard continued: "It was a little bit of a surprise as I thought we were done with major bodily discomfort and having all of your organs re-arranged, but it turns out we weren’t.

"There was more extreme discomfort to come. But viewers always like to see us deeply uncomfortable, and they will. They’re bloody cruel, our viewers.

"We had some very long nights with complications brought about by my solution to try to drive a low-slung hatch over the roughest terrain I have ever driven over. My solution meant I often got in at 4am, hours and hours after the rest of them."
