I’m A Celebrity’s Beverley Callard insists she didn’t lie about being a vegan after being called out by Ant and Dec

I'M A Celebrity's Beverley Callard insists she didn't lie about being a vegan on the ITV show.

The Coronation Street star said she is a true vegan after being called out by show hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly and her on-screen son Simon Gregson.

Ant and Declan cast doubt over her claims during her exit interview last night.

Dec came straight out with it asking her: "There has been some chat about your veganism and some doubt to the validity of it."

Whilst Ant pushed further and said: "Come clean now, is it just for the show?"

Beverley, 63, replied: "I started in March because I had an operation and I saw this documentary that said your joints heal quicker if you're plant based, so that's what I've been doing since March."

Hitting back at Simon, who plays Steve McDonald on the cobbles, Beverley declared: "He knows I’ll give him a slap when I see him."

The Corrie star was seen swerving the likes of sheep's brain, cow's tongue, a deer's testicle and even a sheep's penis, during eating trials.

She had the pleasure of eating fermented plums, five cubes of fermented tofu and a vomit fruit dish.

Her Corrie co-star Simon was quizzed about Bev's veganism on Loose Women last month, to which he replied: "Yeah! You see Rebecca her daughter is vegan.

"I'm sure Bev has done it for all the right reasons, health and to save the planet. If you believe that, I'm a mango!"

Simon, who has portrayed Bev's on-screen son for 21 years, added: "I'm pretty sure it's because she doesn't have to put a willy in her mouth, yeah."

Bev made her first appearance on the popular ITV soap back in 1989, alongside co-star Simon as Steve McDonald.

Back in November 2019 it was revealed that the actress was leaving the show after 30 years.

She made her last appearance on the Cobbles in June, but due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, Beverly was unable to film her final scenes.

Her departure was addressed during an episode a month later, where Leanne spoke to Steve about their son's struggle with mitochondrial disease.

The Leeds-born star has left to go on tour with comedy play The Thunder Girls and also take part in the 20th series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

But it's not all bad news as The Sun exclusively earlier this month that Bev's planning an explosive Coronation Street return next year.
