Last year's Christmas special was a ratings boon for the Beeb, after a massive 11.6million viewers watched it live and the equivalent of more than 80 YEARS on BBC iPlayer.

But according to its director of TV, Charlotte Moore. did reveal that a follow-up special in 2020 was never on the cards.

"That wasn't something that was going to happen this year," Moore revealed.

The 2019 Christmas special ended with Nessa unexpectedly getting down on one knee and proposing to Smithy.

Ruth Jones - the Gavin & Stacey co-creator and Nessa actress - has admitted it could take another 10 years to see a new episode of the comedy.

A lot could happen in the lives of the Billericay and Barry mob before we see them on our tellys again and these are the questions we think need to be answered.

Let's start with the obvious one off the bat.

Smithy had planned to propose to his demanding girlfriend Sonia on Christmas Day, but she hoofed it back to Essex once she met his blended 'family'.

Nessa then took the opportunity to profess her undying love to Smithy, the night after they had 'electric' sex.

It could really go either way, with both admitting they have shared a unique, but great relationship.

Pam essentially goes Bear Grylls whenever she stays at Gwen's house on Barry Island.

Last year, she bought Gwen a new set of luxurious towels to replace her last set which had been a wedding present in 1982.

Pam hates Gwen's hard, old towels but when she tried to replace them with her gift, the new towels were snapped up by others in the house, leaving Pam to use the old ones anyway.

Will she ever get to use the lovely towels round at Gwen's or will she face a lifetime of uncomfortable drying off.

Described as Barry's own Del Boy, Dick Powell has popped up throughout the series, flogging random wares.

He's sold everything from Black Market sat navs to meat he's stolen from the slaughterhouse.

But Bryn has put his foot down and refuses to remunerate Dick for his bespoke bread sauce.

Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones left stunned as she reads her great grandfather's saucy love letters on Who Do You Think You Are?

Bryn won't pay him his £5 because he won't fork out "good money for a pot of bread sauce which is essentially nothing more than a container of ready brek".

Dick's a pretty persistent guy though, and we may well see Bryn settle his debt.
