Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio leaves fans ‘welling up’ with emotional tribute to season 6 cast
LINE of Duty creator Jed Mercurio has left fans "welling up" with an emotional tribute to the season 6 cast.
The writer took to Twitter to salute the stars and crew of the popular BBC drama for all their hard work whilst filming the new series in spite of the current coronavirus pandemic.
After the UK was put into lockdown back in March, it meant that they had to pause filming for the popular show, which had started in February this year.
However, last month the cast returned to Belfast to continue filming and have now been working hard to make sure that there will be a 2021 release date for the sixth series.
And there's definitely no need to worry as DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) will officially return to our screens in March next year.
Creator Jed Mercurio has been very active on Twitter, updating fans on what they've been up to, and told his 103.8k followers yesterday: "#LineofDuty6 We couldn't have done it without the dedication of cast, crew and supporting artistes to rigorous CoViD safety.
"Not a single day's filming lost, and 100+ colleagues finished the shoot in good health. We looked out for each other. We followed the science."
His post has got viewers of the BBC drama ready and raring to go for the next series, with many praising all their hard work.
One wrote: "Huge congratulations- that is a mammoth achievement."
Another said: "So proud to be a devoted #LineofDuty fan when I see posts like this!"
A third added: "Bravo team! Now that’s professionalism and dedication. Cannot WAIT to see the next series."
A fourth said: "Congratulations!!! Can't wait to see the fruits of your labours."
While a fifth admitted they were left "welling up" with pride at the "moving" post.
Mercurio's post comes just days after a potential explosive season 6 spoiler was leaked.
According to a show insider, local cast and crew let slip that "big final scenes" were being filmed at Straid Dam, 15 miles north of Belfast.
