I’m A Celeb’s Beverley Callard dreamed of staying at the Versace Hotel in Australia before show moved to Wales
I’M A Celebrity’s Beverley Callard may have dreamed of a stay at the Versace Hotel in Australia — but ended up closer to home.
The show has been moved to North Wales due to Covid restrictions, giving the contestants a very different experience to previous years.
Asked if she wished she had the chance to go to the five-star hotel on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Bev said: “We’ve been in lockdown in St Helens. It’s even more the unknown. I’ve not done any research. I just think, ‘OK, take each day as it comes’.”
But the Corrie legend should feel at home — as she says the soap’s set has a ghost just like the supposedly haunted Gwrych Castle.
Beverley, who has played Liz McDonald for more than 31 years, says she often feels the presence of late Deirdre Barlow actress Anne Kirkbride.
She said: “There is a massive history with Coronation Street, 60 years. But they do say there is a presence and the original set was built on ley lines.

“Occasionally, for no reason, one set would go eerily cold. And that made you think, ‘Is it me?’ And then, you know, there were three people in the scene, you’d all feel the same thing. After Annie Kirkbride died, I always had a photo of her in my dressing room. And when I went on to the Barlow set, I know I could still feel her.”
Beverley, 63, nearly did not make it to the show due to a botched hip op that left her unable to walk.
She said: “Obviously, I’m scared people won’t like me. I thought, ‘Well, if I last a few days, I’ll have done quite well’. Now I think ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to try my best.’ Having said that, when people see me with no make-up, and Worzel Gummidge hairstyles, they might vote me out first.”
