I’m A Celeb’s Shane Richie admits he’s terrified of sleeping in haunted Gwrych Castle
I’M A Celebrity’s Shane Richie has admitted the prospect of staying in a haunted castle gives him the heebie-jeebies.
Shane, 56, said he heard of its reputation while making another show.
The former EastEnder would drive past Gwrych Castle while he and his family were filming Channel 5 show Caravanning with Shane Richie last year.
Shane said: “Every day me and the family would pass this castle in the hills going, ‘Look at that, doesn’t it look spooky, I bet it is haunted’.
“That is the bloody castle I didn’t want to go to because I thought it was haunted and now I am going to be sleeping in it.”
Coronavirus forced producers to switch this year’s show from the Australian jungle to the damp, freezing, 19th century castle, near Abergele, Conwy.
Olympic running hero Sir Mo Farah, 37, is also one of the celebs going in.
Shane added: “I could be sleeping with Mo Farah, and I've never slept with a Sir before.
“If he s***s himself in the middle of the night because he sees a ghost I am going to be following him straight out. I won’t be able to keep up with him but I'll be straight behind him.”
Shane agreed to join the show in January, finally caving in to years of requests by the ITV show’s producers.
But it is not just the thought of staying in a haunted castle in Wales that puts the willies up him — especially as he has been reading up on edible wild food.
Shane said: “I am not sure I know the difference now between edible mushrooms and magic mushrooms.
“So if at 3 o’clock in the morning we are all off our ts staring at the moon singing Kumbaya, you will know I have caused it. That is my biggest fear.”
The bookies reckon Shane is a surefire pick to be crowned the first King of the Castle. But first he may have to take part in this year’s version of the Bushtucker Trials to win food for the camp and to win over the viewers.

They will include his five kids, aged nine, 12, 14, 28 and 31.
Shane said: “My two eldest are just emptying out their bank accounts trying to get me to do every trial. They just want to see me suffer.
“But my 12-year-old daughter is saying please don’t burp, fart or eat with your mouth open. That is her biggest concern.”
