The Mandalorian fans spot terrifying crossover with Star Wars’ The Empire Strikes Back after ‘scariest episode yet’
THE Mandalorian fans have spotted a terrifying crossover with Star Wars' The Empire Strikes Back after the 'scariest episode yet'.
The second episode of season two saw Mando (Pedro Pascal) and The Child - aka Baby Yoda - escort the 'Frog Lady' and her harvested eggs to a safer planet.
However, they ended up crash landing on a frozen planet where Baby Yoda's growing appetite saw him munch on some spiders eggs.
He soon regretted his actions though, as hundreds of spiders descended on the trio and attacked their spaceship, before being joined by a mammoth, scary spider.
While the scenes were pretty horrifying - especially for people suffering from arachnophobia - some die-hard Star Wars fans realised the creatures matched some concept art from The Empire Strikes Back.
Drawn by Star Wars artist Ralph McQuarrie, the creatures became known as 'knobby white spiders' and lived on the Outer Rim planet of Dagobah, where Yoda lived in exile in the 1980 sequel.
They didn't end up in the final film, but did evolve into another alien creature called the Krykna in the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels.
Fans immediately wondered if the 'knobby white spiders' or the Krykna had made their live-action debut in the latest Mandalorian episode.
However, Lucasfilm creative art manager Lucas Szostak quickly clarified that the spiders were a completely new creature, but were inspired by Ralph's original Empire Strikes Back artwork.
A fan asked: "A question! @PhilSzostak Can you confirm if the creatures were Krykna or that it are completely new creatures inspired by the ralph mcquarrie art?"

He replied: "They are new! Both inspired by the same design."
Regardless of what they were, the spiders certainly terrified viewers, with one writing on Twitter: "Can we stop with the giant spiders, please! I would like to actually watch the shows I’m watching. Man, I hate those things."
Another tweeted: "WHYYY are there not obligatory giant spider trigger warnings on TV shows?!! I am going to have nightmares."
