The top 10 I’m a Celebrity earners – from Noel Edmonds’ staggering £600k cheque to Caitlyn Jenner’s mega pay day
I'M A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! has returned for a brand new series with a french bunch of contestants - and they're all on a pretty penny, too.
The ITV series is taking place in Wales, as opposed to Australia, for the second year running due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But while many viewers usually express sympathy for the contestants as they participate in these challenging trials, it’s worth remembering they’ve been paid good money to be on the show.
Richard Madeley will take home £200,000 for his appearance, which is less than two of last year’s top earner in Mo Farah.
This corroborates the claim that producers are spending less on talent than they have done in previous years, perhaps due to pandemic-related cuts.
In 2019, Caitlyn Jenner earned £500,000 for her appearance, with winner Harry Redknapp taking home the same amount in 2018.
And, now that most of the cast's fees have been revealed, they might be feeling a little bit short-changed in other ways too.
ITV forked out an estimated £1million on last year's lineup alone.
Olympic hero Farah is thought to have made a staggering £300,000 for his time on the show.
But other big names this series like Vernon Kay only made half that amount.
And 46-year-old Kay, who is already worth around £4million, wouldn't even make it into the top ten highest fees given to stars appearing on I'm a Celeb.
Here's a rundown of the highest paid stars to go on the show from previous series.
10. Susannah Constantine - £200,000
Fashion guru Susannah Constantine spent years telling people what not to wear – but it turns out she's also an expert in how to make wads of cash from doing very little work.
Now 58, Constantine was the first person to be voted out of the fifteenth series of I'm a Celeb back in 2015.
She was actually the second person to leave the camp after Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews was booted out after just five days for taking steroids.
Susannah followed him eight days later when she was turfed out in the public vote – but not before collecting her massive £200,000 fee, which producers stumped up after years of unsuccessful bids to get her on the show.
That works out to about £15,400 a day. Nice work, if you can get it.
9. Stanley Johnson - £200,000
The Prime Minister's father, Stanley Johnson, was also rumoured to have bagged £200,000 for his Bushtucker adventure.
Stanley, now 80, was slightly better value for the producer's money than Susannah as he managed to last an extra five days.
That works out at about £11,100 a day, which is still pretty good going.
Stanley has been back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons lately, including for newly unearthed allegations of a domestic violence incident in the 1970s.
8. Jennie McAlpine - £250,000
Stanley's campmate Jennie McAlpine was said to make even more, netting a quarter of a million pounds, reports.
The 36-year-old actress, who plays Fiz Brown in Corrie, went on to claim fourth place in the 2017 series.
Jennie says that lots of her fellow campmates got ill when they returned home because they gorged on too much food after weeks of hunger.
But a bit of over-indulgence is probably to be expected when you've made that much moolah in just three weeks.
7. Nadine Coyle - £250,000
Ex-Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle also trousered £250,000 when she went Down Under last year.
The 35-year-old singer was allegedly cast in the hope that she'd spill the beans on the reasons behind her falling out with her former band.
Nadine had recently split from her long-term on/off partner Jason Bell before her appearance on the programme.
But it now looks like her romance with the Strictly star could be back on after it was revealed they've recently moved in together.
6. Katie Price - £350,000
Katie's celebrity status went stratospheric when she started a relationship with Peter Andre in the third series of I'm a Celeb back in 2004.
But it was her second stint in the jungle in 2009 that made her the big money.
Her fee was a whopping £350,000, reports.
Despite the hefty pay day, she decided to walk after just nine days.
"It's not about the money," she told shortly after leaving.
"I didn't come back here for that. I really miss my kids."
5. Amir Khan - £400,000
Boxing legend Amir Khan delivered a knockout blow to the programme's pay record when he scooped an eye-watering £400,000 to go on the show in 2017.
The 33-year-old athlete's pay eclipsed the previous record, which was thought to have been given to Katie Price.
Khan made it through six rounds of public eliminations before being voted out of the jungle on day 20.
He's set to make a reality TV return in his own BBC3 series with his family called Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton.
Just days after Khan announced the show, cops were called to his £1.5million family home to investigate whether a man was behaving aggressively.
Khan's spokesperson said no offence had been committed.
4. Ian Wright - £400,000
Former Arsenal ace Ian Wright also had a major score with his £400,000 pay for his stint in the jungle in last year's series.
The 56-year-old was given the boot after 18 days at the camp – where he memorably clashed with comedian Andrew Maxwell.
When offered another portion of crocodile feet and spinach, Wright snapped: "I said I don't want no more f**king crocodile, bruv."
The football star's premier pay for doing the show was said to help him pay off looming multi-million pound tax debts.
Writing in his autobiography, Wright detailed how a "wave of financial advisers" in the 1990s left a "whole generation of footballers" in tax debt.
"The fact that it was bad advice and probably some financial skulduggery is not their concern," he added.
"They want to get paid and my name is on the bill."
3. Harry Redknapp - £500,000
Fellow footie legend Harry Redknapp went even further than Wright, netting half-a-million pounds for his 2018 appearance.
The veteran manager, 73, even won his series, becoming the first male celeb to do so since Superbike champ Carl Fogarty was crowned King of the Jungle in 2014.
He was even named the most popular contestant of all time by bookies, with over 53 per cent of all betting slips placed that series fancying Redknapp to win.
But despite his staggering popularity, he thought he wouldn't last very long in the camp.
"I'm amazed I survived three weeks to be honest with you," Redknapp said after his victory.
"When I first came in, I looked and I thought, 'Oh my God, I'm in trouble here.'
"I looked at the group and I thought, they don't really know or are interested in anything I'm interested in."
2. Caitlyn Jenner - £500,000
Caitlyn Jenner matched Redknapp's mind-boggling fee when she went into the jungle in 2019.
It was actually Jenner's second I'm a Celeb appearance, having taken part in the US version of the show back in 2003.
Jenner, 70, had an awkward exit from the UK series when none of her famous family flew out to Australia to greet her when she was evicted after 20 days in the camp.
Supermodel Kendall and billionaire Kylie did fork out on some "welcome home" balloons for Jenner when she arrived back in the States, however.
1. Noel Edmonds - £600,000
The undisputed King of the Jungle in terms of pay is Noel Edmonds, who bagged £600,000 as a late addition to the 2018 cast.
But despite receiving £100,000 more than series winner Harry Redknapp, Edmonds failed to win over the public and was the first to be voted out of the camp.
His early exit meant that he earned £2,272 AN HOUR for his time on the show.
Campmates and producers were said to have been left shocked by the TV legend's departure.
