His Dark Materials’ most explosive season 2 predictions as BBC finally confirms comeback date
HIS Dark Materials is set to hit our screens early next month and fans have predicted what they think is going to in the upcoming series.
The popular BBC fantasy drama, which is based on the novel series of the same name by Philip Pullman, swept the nation with it’s first series last year and now it looks like it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before…
Season one followed Lyra trying to find her missing friend and whilst doing so found out about this substance called Dust.
The second series, named the Subtle Knife, is the second book in the trilogy and will explore the aftermath of her pal Roger’s death, where she’ll meet Will Parry in the city of Cittàgazze to further investigate the mysterious substance.
The much-loved programme will hit our screens on Sunday November 8 on BBC One and pick up where it left off.
And considering the first series mixed it up a little with the storyline from the book, it’s looking very likely that they will for the upcoming series – so here’s a look at some juicy predictions…
The death of Lee Scorby
Fans have predicted that the Texan aëronaut will die in the new series because of how it panned out in the book.
As Lee has taken Lyra in as his own and treats her as if she’s his own daughter, he will do anything to protect her and he dies after getting shot.
And although it’s sad Lyra has lost her father figure, his death will actually protect her for what is install for the third series.
Spectres
These scary “beings of spirit” feed on dust and void between worlds in the multiverse.
Interestingly they aren’t interested in attacking anyone that is young, but focus on adults instead.
When protagonists Pary and Lyra meet, they realise that they are in a town which has a population of no adults due to the fact that they’ve killed them all and try to figure out why…
The Queen and witches
The witches are a huge part of the storyline throughout the three novels and fans who have read the book will know that there is a lot of drama is centred around them.
Viewers have already seen actress Ruta Gedmintas play Serafina Pekkala and now Jade Anouka will take on the role of Ruta Skadi.
The importance of Will Parry
Lyra befriends young will, the “final bearer of the subtle knife”.
He goes on to befriend Lyra in Cittagazza and they try to understand more about Dust, as well as trying to figure out where he dad is.
Will’s dad Stanislaus Grumman
Doctor Stanislaus Grumman, who also goes by the name of Colonel John Parry, is a huge part in the second series as Will goes on the hunt to find his dad.
So surely he’s got a massive play to part in season 2?
Mary Malone
Simone Kirby is set to hit our screens this weekend to play the important astrophysicist and neuropsychologist.
Although she doesn’t play a huge role in the second book, by the third she helps others understand what weird and wonderful things are going on around them.
Angels
At the end of The Subtle Knife Will Parry helps Lord Asriel destroy the Authority and right before he does so, two angels guide him to the powerful man.
However Lyra is nowhere to be seen and it looks like someone has taken her… is she safe?
His Dark Materials series 1 is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
