Death in Paradise’s Ben Miller hints that Jason Manford will play murder victim in season 10
DEATH in Paradise's Ben Miller has hinted that Jason Manford will play a murder victim in season 10.
The comedian revealed he had flown out to the Caribbean island of Guadalupe, where the show is filmed, last month.
Now Ben - who played DI Richard Poole in the first two seasons of the BBC drama - has revealed how guest stars like Jason are keen to play the murder victim, as it basically means they get a two-week holiday to the Caribbean.
He said: "Once the series became popular it was easier to get people to be in it, but one of the great things about being the person who gets murdered - and I say this from experience - is that it's like a two week holiday!
"You have your murder scene, that's a morning or an afternoon. You have your flashbacks, which are a morning or an afternoon.
"The rest of the time, you've got to be on call because chances are that they won't shoot your flashbacks until they're sure you've got the main scene of the day.
"They get you to go out the whole length of the shoot but you're basically sitting on a sun lounger for two weeks!
"I think word got around among the acting community. No shame at all playing the dead person!"
While Ben didn't mention Jason specifically, the comedian's social media pictures from Guadalupe certainly mirrored Ben's description.
In one shot, Jason, 39, could be seen soaking up the sun from on his sun lounger, with the beach in the background.
He wrote: "Mad busy day today. Been told by make-up department my character should be tanned so just sorting that out. Then got a jet ski lesson this afternoon. Absolute nightmare of a day!"
He also shared a photo of himself in snorkels with fellow guest star Kelvin Fletcher, writing: "It’s been another tough day at work for @kelvin_fletcher & I."
Jason and Kelvin will star alongside Ralf Little, who took over as the show's main detective in season nine.
Death in Paradise is available on BBC iPlayer.
