Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers renewed for two more seasons as Fox gushes over comedies as ‘key pillars of success’
FOX has locked in two more seasons of fan favourite shows Family Guy and Bob's Burgers.
Family Guy will be coming back for seasons 19 and 20, while Bob's Burgers will return for its 12th and 13th seasons.
Media giant Fox explained the renewal saying the two animated shows are pivotal to the network's success.
"Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers are key pillars of our network’s success," Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Entertainment told .
"By taking the genre to new heights and driving pop culture in meaningful ways, they’ve laid the foundation for making Animation Domination one of the most powerful program blocks in all of television."
Thorn added: "Both of these two-season renewals affirm once again our commitment to animation and empower us to continue in our build as the leader in the space with distinct and fresh new comedies."
Bob’s Burgers follows Bob and his odd who run his namesake burger.
The series has won two Emmys and been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award and an Annie Award this year.
Seth McFarlane created Family Guy which debuted in 1999 and has reached a fever pitch cult status amongst its fans.
The series follows the Griffins family who live on Rhode Island.
The family consists of parents Peter and Lois, teenage children, Meg and Chris, and their diabolical baby brother Stewie; and their anthropomorphic pet dog, Brian.
Family Guy is known for its surreal and dark humor that uses of metafictional cutaway gags to hold a mirror up to American society.
Fox is also home to the longest running animated series, The Simpsons, which it renewed for its 31st and 32nd seasons last year.
It and Family Guy have recently been in the spotlight in the debate over white actors playing non-white characters.
The Family Guy voice actor who plays Cleveland Brown and Consuela stepped down last month after 20 years to make way for a minority actor.
after voicing the character on Family Guy and its spinoff, the Cleveland Show since 1999.
In a twitter post, he wrote: "It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years.
"I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role."
At the same time The Simpsons show producers revealed in a statement: “Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters.”
The long-running series has been deemed “problematic” by many fans for hiring white actor, Hank Azaria - who long voiced Kwik-E-Mart owner, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.

Earlier this year, Hank announced he quit the show after first being cast back in 1989.
“What they're going to do with the character is their call,” he said in January.

“It's up to them and they haven't sorted it out yet. All we've agreed on is I won't do the voice anymore.
“We all feel like it's the right thing and good about it,” the comedian added.
