Chantelle plans to flee to a women’s refuge with the kids while on a family holiday she has engineered without Gray this week on the show.
But the brute appears on their holiday and drags Chantelle and the kids back to Walford, where a distraught Chantelle finally blurts out that she’s leaving him - with fatal consequences.
And next week’s episodes of EastEnders will see the police question Gray about Chantelle’s death at the station.
Meanwhile, Karen, Mitch and the family return from Scotland and discover the awful news.
Later, Mitch notices that something isn’t quite right between Kheerat - who Chantelle told about her escape plan ahead of her murder - and Gray and quizzes Mitch about what’s going on.
Later, the pair meet and Kheerat tells Mitch that he’d been speaking to Chantelle throughout lockdown - and that she wasn’t happy in her relationship with Gray.
When Kheerat asks Mitch if he thinks it’s possible that Gray fatally hurt Chantelle and killed her, Mitch can’t cope with the question and storms off.
Later, Mitch tells Karen about Kheerat’s theory but will Karen believe what he has to say - or turn Mitch against Kheerat?
Gray gets a visit from the police again later, and they reveal they’ve had some new information.
Will Gray end up facing justice for Chantelle’s death?
Speaking about why Chantelle decides to escape to a women’s refuge rather than confiding in her family, actress Jessica Plummer said: "Chantelle’s parents have a relationship with her husband, so for her to tell her parents is to potentially not escape.
"Gray is clever, he’s smart and he’s not going to let her just walk out of the door. I think it’s easier for her to just run."
Talking about the tragic end to the harrowing storyline, Toby Alexander-Smith - who plays Gray - said: “It’s certainly going to be a shock for the audience and I think that it is important that it concludes in such a tragic way.
"So we’re encouraging women to speak out before that does happen because sadly it is happening. And it’s happening more and more frequently."
