Disney+ announce Frozen spin-off Once Upon a Snowman – finally revealing the origins of fan-favourite Olaf
DISNEY+ has announced Frozen spin-off Once Upon a Snowman - which will finally reveal the origins of fan-favourite Olaf.
The adorable snowman is voiced by actor Josh Gad and the new animation will explore the moment Olaf was created by Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel).
reports it will also tackle his "first steps as he comes to life and searches for his identity in the snowy mountains outside Arendelle" as well as his love of summer.
The synopsis reveals a number of questions will be answered including: "What happened to Olaf within the moments after Elsa created him as she was "letting it go" and building her ice palace, and when Anna and Kristoff first meet him in the forest?"
Co-director Trent Correy said in a statement: "This is an idea that started to form when I was an animator on the first Frozen.
"Dan Abraham and I are so grateful and excited to have had the opportunity to direct this short, working with our incredible colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios."
Dan - who worked on the musical sequences in Frozen 2 - added as co-director: "Josh Gad gives one of the great animated voice performances as Olaf through the Frozen films.
"To have the opportunity to work with him in the recording booth was such a privilege and career highlight."
Frozen was originally released in 2013 and was a global smash hit, leading to its 2019 sequel.
Frozen 2 went on to surpass its predecessor making a whopping $666 million internationally after it debuted on November 22.
