Danny Dyer, who plays Mick Carter in the long-running soap, revealed this year they’re taking it up a notch to really unleash the nightmare at Christmas for 2020.

Discussing the upcoming festive season in an interview with Metro.co.uk, Danny said: “It is Christmas, you know what Christmas is about on the f***ing Square!

“I’ll let you use your own imagination on that one. We’re due another dark Christmas, aren’t we? That’s how we roll. We’ve really took it up a level.

“There’s creatives coming back to work and we’re all chomping at the bit so we’re all bringing our A-game to the table.

“I don’t know how long that’ll last but at the moment, we’re so excited to be doing something in part of a show we love. Everyone is delivering beautiful and powerful performances.”

Last year's big day saw Sharon's cheating finally being exposed, Phil erupting like a Cockney volcano – and Keanu being 'shot'.

EastEnders will officially be back on Monday, September 7 and from then on, the soap will be airing four nights a week at the slightly shorter length of 20 minutes.

The news will be a relief for viewers, who have been left hanging after the finale on Tuesday, June 16, ended on a huge cliffhanger.
