Confused Strike: Lethal White viewers ‘switch off’ as twist-filled thriller leaves them with ‘no clue what’s going on’
CONFUSED Strike: Lethal White viewers have 'switched off' after the twist-filled thriller left them with 'no clue what's going on'.
The series sees Cormoran Strike and his detective partner, Robin Ellacott, return to solve more grisly crimes in London.
Strike is asked to work for a wealthy MP who is being blackmailed for a mysterious reason, and he soon believes the plot could be connected to a disturbed young man called Billy, who told Strike he had witnessed a young girls murder when he was a child.
Meanwhile, Robin (Holliday Grainger) is unhappy in her marriage to husband Matthew, with the pair almost splitting up if only for Matthew having a brush with death after being stung by a bee.
With numerous twists and turns along the way, the series has left many viewers so confused they can't be bothered to carry on watching.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "#Strike does anyone understand what’s going on?"
Another added: "I'm lost. Is his female partner just married or did she leave hubby while on honeymoon? Or did hubby die of an infection? Or is she still living with him while working with Strike?"
A third tweeted: "I enjoyed watching #LethalWhite but if I hadn’t read the book I wouldn’t have had a clue what was going on."
Others didn't realise the series is based on the books by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, with one tweeting: "I am afraid I gave up on it, never knew there was a book."
Holliday recently hinted at heartbreak for Robin after marrying Matthew at the end of season three.
She said: "At the end of the last series, Robin has just gone and got married to Matthew.
"We begin this series, I guess with flashbacks starting at the end of the wedding.
“Strike and Robin are both in their own relationships, and have kind of had a slightly stilted personal relationship.”
She continued: "Right from the beginning of this series, you’re understanding that Robin and Matthew may be changing too much as people.
“They probably shouldn’t be together, but they have been together for such a long time.
“It’s the kind of first love and he was her childhood sweetheart. So, breaking that safety net is incredibly difficult for her.”
Strike: Lethal White continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
