EastEnders spoilers: Huge character returning for Christmas teases soap boss Kate Oates
EASTENDERS are lining up a huge return for Christmas, soap boss Kate Oates has revealed.
The BBC soap will relaunch next month after being off air for three months due to the pandemic shutdown.
It will return with four episodes per week at the slightly shorter time of 20 minutes, but the drama will be full steam ahead.
Now head of continuing drama Kate Oates has revealed that as well as the explosive relaunch, there will be a dramatic Christmas return for a legendary character.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: “We have an exciting return planned and it’s going to be part of a huge long running story.”
Kate also revealed that the story was so far developed that they are already in the second draft stage of the scripts for Christmas.
And she heaped praise on executive producer Jon Sen who is already well into planning the next Christmas bombshells.
She added: “Jon is so organised we kind of know what we are doing the Christmas after.
“We have really long arcs with a lot of hot points. We’re very much on its way to completion. EastEnders Christmas is very much on the agenda.”
Jon also revealed how storylines have been adapted due to the new way of filming socially distanced.

He said: “We have adapted and we have a responsibility to reflect those seismic shifts but we just adjusted stories we have.
“We have really embraced that. The huge impact of domestic violence, we really touch on that and it’s a really powerful story.
“But for the Carters it’s the same, Ian is creating lots of enemies, love and betrayal for Ben and Callum so it’s all as planned and back in business.”
