Who plays God in Lucifer season 5?

Dennis Haysbert has joined the cast for season five as God.

Joe Henderson, Lucifer's co-showrunner, told Entertainment Weekly: "We did like the big crazy list of [possible actors for the part], and he was my top choice.

“We were lucky. It was our first and only offer.”

Why has the identity of God remained a mystery in the previous seasons?

God hasn't been a physical character in the series before, though he is mentioned in most episodes.

All viewers know is that he build the universe with the character Goddess.

He is the father of Lucifer, who he had previously banished to hell.

Who is Dennis Haysbert?

Dennis is an American actor and voice actor, who most recently was the face of adverts for Allstate Insurance.

He set up the Haysbert Humanitarian Foundation that works to provide healthier food and clean water for children.

Dennis has spoken about playing God on his website.

He said: "The TV series follows Lucifer Morningstar who resigns his throne and moves to Los Angeles.

"Things must really be out of control because GOD is coming to earth to check on things - and that’s when I make my BIG appearance."

Dennis has starred across TV and film, having roles in 24, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Dear White People.

He's also voiced cartoon characters in The Boondocks.

His career has even seen him narrate documentaries and Christmas films.
