While Leslie has been flooded with support from fans of The Office, he has revealed how he has also sadly been bombarded with racist abuse from online trolls.

Taking to Instagram, Leslie posted a series of hateful messages he had received on the social media platform, including the repeated use of the N-word.

Other messages featured horrific lynching photos, and Leslie said: "For those of you who don’t believe racism is still alive in the world… here’s the proof.

"Our goal has simply been to entertain and give the fans a quality series.

"These rants are evidence that there is still a great deal of work that needs to be done here in America regarding racism. Bigotry and hate will not be allowed to eradicate art or Black people. Enough said."

The messages sent to the actor are from an account that has since been deleted, but some of the hateful post read: "Your scam show will never happen. Now go be a good little n****rs and burn your neighbourhoods.

"You won’t get any of my White dollars. My hard earned White dollars that I worked for will never go to any n****rs trying to steal the white man’s ideas.

"I speak for white America we will not give you n****rs another penny."
