Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar begs show boss to bring back DC Nigel Morton after botched blackmail plot
LINE of Duty's Adrian Dunbar has begged the show's boss to bring back DC Nigel Morton after a botched blackmail plot.
Adrian plays Superintendent Ted Hastings in the hit BBC drama, which is written by Jed Mercurio.
The cast has seen a number of famous faces come and go over the past five seasons, and Adrian has revealed which character he would love to see return.
Speaking to during a live Q&A following the BBC One repeat of the first ever episode of the show, he said: "I really think that Nigel, Neil’s character, should come back – I’ve been advocating for that to see if we can get Nigel back.”
Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey played the Detective Constable in season one, and returned on and off during the second and third seasons.
In season three he was unsuccessfully blackmailed by Matthew 'Dot' Cottan as he attempted to clear himself of being 'The Caddy'.
Adrian also spoke about his favourite aspect of the show, saying interrogation scenes were always fun to film.
“I did like the interrogation at the end of season five, with Anna Maxwell Martin – I thought she brought a great character in to interrogate me.
“I love the interrogation scenes because they are like little one-act plays, they have all these twists and turns in them and are so engrossing.
“I know a lot of actors who have said to me, who’d have thought you could put a two-shot on screen for twenty minutes and people would be absolutely locked in, how does that work?

“Well it does work, when the story is great and you’ve got these fabulous twists and turns – so those are my favourite bits!"
Meanwhile Jed has hinted the AC-12 trio could die after the sixth season and warned there's a "sword hanging over all of them".
