He will star in new story Doctor Who: Out of Time taking on the Time Lord's famous foe, the Daleks, from audio-drama studio Big Finish, with Naomi revealed as his new companion.

Big Finish Audio is renowned for its full cast, award-winning audio books, and perhaps best known for its Doctor Who ranges and its various spin-offs.

The character, played by Eleanor Crooks, joins forces with the iconic Doctor when she is left bored babysitting in Calcutta.

Talking of her debut in audio-drama Storm of the Sea Devils, scheduled for release in 2024, she said: “Naomi is very much like me.

“She's very feisty and says what she wants to say. And her weakness, if you will, is that she's quite headstrong."

Whovians have been promised the story is 'the first of an explosive new full-cast audio drama series.'

It will also see Tom join forces with the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant.

Speaking about his return to the iconic role and working with Tom, David said: "Tom Baker was obviously the first Doctor that I knew, I was small when he took over and I grew up through the seven years that he was the Doctor. I was a massive fan.

"Tom Baker was very much the Doctor. There is something about the way he is associated with the character that seems utterly timeless."

The synopsis for the new story reads: "The Cathedral of Contemplation is an enigma, existing outside time.

"It turns through history, opening its doors across the universe to offer solace to those in need.

"Occasionally, the Doctor drops in – when he’s avoiding his destiny, it’s an ideal place to get some perspective."

The first episode of Doctor Who: Out Of Time will premiere in August 2020.
