Doctor Who fans go wild as John Barrowman and Jo Martin reunite on Holby City and give epic nod to show
DOCTOR Who fans have gone wild after John Barrowman and Jo Martin reunited on Holby City and gave an epic nod to the show.
John, 53, turned up in the very first scene of Tuesday's episode in his guest role as Dr Drew Nicholson-Heath.
The star is best known for his role as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and spin-off series Torchwood.
Meanwhile Jo - who plays neurosurgeon Max McGerry in Holby City - also appeared in Doctor Who as Ruth Clayton, a long-lost reincarnation of the Doctor.
Holby City bosses couldn't resist giving a cheeky nod to the popular sci-fi series when Max and Drew came face to face in the hospital.
After Max questioned whether Drew was trying to poach her staff, Drew gave her an enthusiastic salute and said "Doctor!".
The moment echoed the many times Captain Jack had acknowledged the Time Lord on Doctor Who and the reference didn't go unnoticed by fans.
One wrote on Twitter: "John Barrowman just saluted "DOCTOR" to Jo Martin on #HolbyCity. I.E. JACK HARKNESS TO RUTH! AAAAHHHH. Loved that Easter egg."
Another added: "This was a cute nod! #HolbyCity."
The moment was later confirmed in a behind-the-scenes video shared by Holby City’s official social media profiles.

In between takes, John and Jo stopped for a chat where he gave her another salute and she said: "I’m melting! My son is gonna die when he sees this!”
Meanwhile viewers were also left confused by John's Scottish accent during the episode.
The actor normally speaks with an American accent, but John is actually from Scotland - and originally had the accent as a kid.
When his family moved to the US, his accent changed along with it.
Holby City airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
