Death in Paradise’s Shyko Amos posts emotional video after ‘hard’ exit from BBC crime drama

DEATH in Paradise’s Shyko Amos has posted an emotional video after her ‘hard’ exit from the BBC crime drama.

Shyko played Ruby Patterson in the hit series, but as the cast and crew recently returned to the Caribbean to begin filming season 10, it was revealed the actress wouldn’t be joining them.

Taking to her YouTube channel, Shyko has now opened up about her exit and thanked fans for supporting her character.

Starting with a message which said “This is a hard one” she said: “I’m not going to be returning for season 10, so I just wanted to come on my YouTube channel to just give… this is a video just to say thank you.

“It’s just one big thank you fest!”

“Thanks for giving Ruby a chance because at first you didn’t, you were rough on me at first, for the first couple of episodes.”

“I remember one of the articles was like, ‘She’s awful!’”

With a laugh she added: “My little heart almost broke, I was like, ‘Oh my God, they hate me’.

“I read all the comments, they were like, ’I can’t stand her, she’s really annoying.’

“She probably was a bit annoying actually, but just thank you for getting behind her because it was really nerve-racking doing it after Danny [John-Jules].”

Opening up about how the show was her first major role, she said: “This was my first big job, I didn’t really know what I was doing on screen in that way but obviously I have acting skills.

“I’m an actress, not a comedian but I just happen to be a bit funny.”

Last week, Death in Paradise bosses thanked Shyko for playing Ruby for two series and for the impact she had made on the show during that time.

They said in a statement: “After two series bringing law, order, and joy to the streets of Saint Marie, we’re sad to say goodbye to Ruby Patterson who made such a massive impact in such a short time!”

“We would like to thank Shyko Amos for bringing Ruby to life.”
