The 100 boss promises final season will solve ‘unanswered questions’ from across series – including the empty bunker
THE 100 show boss has promised that the final reason will resolve all of fans' "unanswered questions" from across the series.
Jason Rothenberg spoke out at the Comic-Con@Home yesterday afternoon and lifted the lid on some of the shows biggest secrets - including why the bunker was empty in season 4.
He explained: "We definitely started the season wanting to make sure we didn’t leave anything on the field, meaning there were certain unanswered questions over the seasons we wanted to answer.
"Why was the bunker empty when they opened it in season 4? Is a question I always had and wanted to answer this year."
He went on to explain that things will finally all make sense for viewers at the end of the American post-apocalyptic drama.
Jason added: "The ending of a story is the moral of that story and we really wanted to say something with this season, which I think when people do get to the end and see how the story ends they’ll perhaps come to look at the whole series differently.
"We’re not just saying people are awful and will do anything to protect their loved ones and kill anybody who’s taking their stuff, which is unfortunately a big part of human nature.
"We’re kind of making more of a statement about that."
The science fiction drama series, which first aired back in 2014, is currently airing its final season.
Earlier this month fans got a look at the prequel series after the 'backdoor pilot' aired in the US.
The spin-off prequel is set to air after the show's current season and is set 97 years before the first ever episode took place.
Happily for fans, the episode, which was before the apocalypse started, began to answer questions about the Grounders, Flame and the Ark.
Jason has teased that viewers have plenty more where that has come from.
"We have a lot of plans to make it different from the original," he told .
"It's obviously going to be filled with a lot of Easter eggs and fill in a lot of blanks for fans of the original show.
"We know that we are talking about the origins of the Grounders, and assuming we get to move forward, we would see the fracturing of that group into various clans eventually."
Rothenberg continued: "We would see the growing importance of the Flame, we would see the way the Flame operates before 100 years later when it came into our story in the original show when it's not working perfectly anymore because of time and however many minds it now contains.
"Right now it only contains the mind of Becca. We have plans to go to a mind space and to see Becca when the next person receives the Flame, and that will happen as they become the second Commander.
"So whether we've got five seasons of story laid out or not I'm not going to sit here today and tell you that we do, but we certainly know where it's going and how the world is going to change over the course of a few seasons."
The prequel will also reveal more about the Ark, including family members of many of the show's main characters, according to Rothenberg.
He said: "[The prequel] is going to be its own show and we're not going to be always married to [the original].
"We're going to flash back quite often to the present. We're going to see pre-apocalypse more often, we're going to see characters in their lives prior to the apocalypse and to contrast that with what's going on in their lives in the post-apocalypse radioactive world and see how they've changed and how they got there.

"And I have a sneaky plan to get us back up to space, because we know that parallel to the story on the ground, we know what's going on in space."
The show runner confirmed earlier this year that The 100's seventh season would be its last.
