The BBC has released a first look at their new political thriller starring Hugh Laurie

Hugh takes on the role of Peter Laurence - 'self-made, forceful and charismatic politician' - in the new offering from screenwriter David Hare.

In the picture, Peter can be seen walking along Downing Street with one hand raised, waving to the press and onlookers.

Peter's public and private life appear to be falling apart, but with his eye on the prize, he continues to further his own agenda while those around him plot his downfall.

He's described as an individual 'shamelessly untroubled by guilt or remorse'.

Commented on the casting when the four-part thriller was originally announced, Hare said: “I first worked with Hugh Laurie in 1987 when he set off on his riveting change of direction from adroit comedian to commanding dramatic actor.

"I can’t wait to see him embody the fictional future of the Conservative party in Roadkill.”
